Aims and Scope

We are delighted to announce that JECME is publishing a special collection focusing on the digitization of continuing education in the health professions, including continuing medical education (CME), continuing professional development (CPD) and interprofessional continuing education (IPCE).

Authors were invited to submit an article or short communication describing their experience with or perspectives on the role of digitization in continuing education. Submissions will be published throughout October 2021.

Select papers will be discussed at the 14th European CME Forum, held virtually 3-5 November 2021.

This Special Collection will focus on the following subthemes:

  1. Current and future role of digitization in education and the practice of medicine

  2. How digitization can support and facilitate planning and delivery of effective education

  3. Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on production and use of continuing education

  4. How the “digital competence” of healthcare professionals can be improved

Digitization affects educators, funders, regulators, policy makers and others involved in the continuing education of healthcare professionals. Therefore, authors from a wide range of stakeholders in continuing education were encouraged to submit to the special collection.
